Marine grade plywood is the highest quality plywood available. It is referred to as “Marine grade” because it must be fully capable of withstanding rain, snow, and moisture on a regular, repeated basis in order to qualify. However, this is not the only requirement for a piece of plywood to be labelled as marine grade.
Only Western Larch or Douglas Fir wood can be used to make marine grade plywood. It must also have five or more layers, with far fewer air pockets and small voids than standard plywood. It is permitted to have some knots in the exterior plies, but no knotholes. It must be glued together with waterproof glue.
Softwood Plywood
Its panels have a softwood core and are also faced and backed with a softwood veneer. Because of their versatility, strength, and aesthetic appeal, they are used for a wide range of internal and external projects.

Softwood plywood is available in a range of grades and thicknesses. The highest grades are appropriate for decorative purposes such as furniture making. The C+ face is sound, but there may be some knots and open splits that must be filled for the best results.
